Evaluation part 3 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Combination of my main product and ancillary texts

Introduction:

Within this short essay i will be able to express the purpose and relation between the three product that me and my group have produce.  Many points such as the style use as mise en scene, the props, the synergy , the representation of the artist and the themes that i decide to use to ensure that it will relate to the lyrics of the song and the audience expectation.

As noticed on the digipak the main colour we used are black to represent ( classy and elegant to let the red and gold colours stand out ), red (to connote the sense of romance and passion that this narrative have ) and gold ( which signifys' in this video "bling bling" with the gold digger on your right ). These colours play a huge role on the audience eyes and relate to the meaning of the lyrics. This conform to David Bordwell theory " any theme may appear in any genre" simply because this r&b video is a sub-genre with rap lyrics. the theme mainly expressed  love/ romance/ passion/ lost emotion/ revenge and sex. The red colour reflect the character feelings ( in love, passion and romance) but also links to the women, as we are able to see that she is the one wearing a red dress and pushing him away. The majority of the digipak and the cover magazine relate to the video due to the colour used within the costumes the make up or even the font. The red colour reinforce the branding sense of the synergy because every colour have the same meaning and can relate to each other.  The gold colour also connote wealth and success and let the target audience aware that the music video will be catchy, throughout the gold back ground I used and the gold writing I have used within my digipak and my cover magazine. The synergy between the three  products merge really well as the audience is able to denote each character role and purpose through the storyline, on top of that the fact that the facial expression of the artist is straight with no smile can express the emotion he feels for instance seeing him on the digipak and the cover magazine with the face looking at the ground can let the target audience aware on how the protagonist feels about love and his disappointment or broken heart.
Font and style

The following  pictures are a method to meet the target audience expectation. As well as the picture i believe that the font and the style of the writing must suit the target audience expectation as it will conform to the RNB music video convention. The "ride for me"font as shown below is in italic in white with a gold and fantasist back ground. This is the first image that come to the screen and i believe Thought others R&B music video that i have watch that it suit the convention and the way the music video should start as it is due catching and "bling bling".  Jewellers are conventions used for R&B videos to  in a way create a fantasist and dreamy atmosphere that people are not usually not able to see. I am totally agree with the G Altman 1999 theory which is (set of pleasure) because thought this music video you can awake emotional pleasure coming from the video. In the video that i have created similar to an R&B video i wanted to awake the emotional and visceral pleasure with strong emotions such as pitiful, meaningful, anticipation, empathise from the audience, escapism and entertainment. The gold effect within the music video that i have done suit well the main protagonist who is considered as a wealthy and successful person. The music video of Beyonce and Jay z (upgraded) is a great example to take into consideration as it is eye catching and the audience will be captivated by all these gold element which make more sense with the actors acting.

props and accessories
The cigar in my music video have been taken from the idea of letting my target audience known that the character is wealthy and has money. The idea of using a cigar mainly came from R. KELLY & USHER "same girl" song , i thought it was a great idea to use this code of the convention as it reinforce the visual expectation of the spectators. The heels are also elements that can express the character of the protagonist desire for instance the fact that the women clothe and appearance (extravagance)show to the target audience how comfortable the protagonist is  and what type of women he is physically attracted by.

The men personality thought the protagonist costume and props will have an impact on his personality as well as the female character which reflect the protagonist attraction and wants (pretty, attractive and expensive clothe LOUIS VUITTON t-shirt)to the sensation it want to let show. money care and all physical element which might potentially attract the audience.

I would like also to let know that my music video does not conform to the AUTEUR theory because i did not tried to have and incorporate my own style  like Hitchcock, Fincher and Meadows have done. I tried to relate with all convention theory that i know to help my music video realistic, the character having a cigar can also show what type of audience he wanted to be appealing to. The three pictures below emphasis the R&B music video where they constantly like showing off and express how wealthy they are. A good example will be the the featuring between usher and R- Kelly bellow.

The other character an attractive female conform to all convention seen and studied in class regarding the fact that women are considerate as sexual object but also as main reason of heart broken (male gaze theory)

In order to relate to most of the conventions I have used, I believe that related to the repetition and difference theory more repetition have been made to follow the convention and attract the audience who doesn't except the twist at the end.
In order to relate to the song i have used several key props. To also ensure that the target audience will be captivated it is to known that the music sound is related to a story line. The gold watch is a representation of the principal  important protagonist life and purpose toward the woman. As previously said the gold connote the fact that Ratlin the main characters is wealthy and successful. This also shows why the woman who's wearing red  which connote the passion from the singer and dangerous to the audience. it also what does the woman  really want from the protagonist  which is his money and physical asset. This specific shoots shows to the audience the purpose of the woman in the life of the character.

I have decided to highlight how the woman who became "the gold tiger" change other time. The first picture on your right  which is a medium shoot of the character putting on a red lip stick. This red lips is called (diva) and we wanted to express her personality and her attitude through the costume and make up she wore. Divas are extravagant and only think about themselves by using other individual as games.Compare to the first picture on your left the second picture taken in white and black is present to express the fact that this image was taken in the past and that the woman looked completely different compare to now. She looked simple without to much make up and smiling. This show that she change and her personality has change a lot over the time, she could potentially be taken as a manipulative woman.

The close shoot above have been taken to set the protagonist character and present him to the target audience. In every shoot like we can see the protagonist never smile and seems sad, from his facial expression we can see how disappointed the character feels about this situation. Related to the repetition and difference theory we are able to notice that the attitude from the characters is a bit different to normal music video where the rich man changes women like socks, this time the man feels betray and heart broken.

And finally below is the a students who saw all the three product that i have done and talk about how it found it.
